A 28-Year-Old Man Was Remanded In Custody Today Charged With The Burglary Of A Cork Pensioner’s Lifetime Savings While Posing As A Garda.
A 28-year-old man was remanded in custody today charged with the theft of a Cork pensioner’s nest egg while posing as a Garda.
Kenneth Lyons, with an address at Willison Meadows, Tower, Blarney, Co Cork was charged with the theft of 28,000 in readies from the 70-year-old pensioner’s home at Wolfe Tone Street in Cork last Sun., June 26th.
The pensioner was making ready to travel to Medjugorje on pilgrimage when the alleged robbery occurred. At Cork District Court today, Mr Lyons faced 2 charges, the first in relation to the alleged theft of the total of 28,000 from the man’s home and a second of impersonating a member of An Garda Sochna.
The defendant, who wore a gray striped t-shirt and blue jeans in court today, was caught on yesterday and brought to Gurranabraher Garda station for querying. Giving evidence of arrest, charge and caution Detective Aidan Forrest said Mr Lyons made no reply to the charges put to him following his arrest, writes tagza.com.
Thousands of travellers took part in this year’s jubilee Peace Walk that took place on the banquet of St. John the Baptist, June 24th that was only 1 day prior to the 30th Anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions. The Peace Walk started at six a.m. From the Priory of St. Anthony in Humac and ended in front of the church of St. James in Medjugorje.
The Guardian Clergyman of Humac Priory, Fr. Velimir Mandi263 [*SCO], sanctified and greeted all travellers at the start of the Peace Walk. They represented the following states : Austria, Germany, US, Canada, Eire, England, Brazil, Columbia, Mexico, China, Hungary, Slovakia, France, Romania, Poland, Czech Republic, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Korea, Ukraine, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Prayers were said and hymns in the privilege of the Queen of Peace were sung all the time in the Peace Walk, that arrived in front of the church around 10.15 a.m. Fr. Miljenko Steko met all the travellers outside the church of St. James and conducted Adoration of the Sanctified Sacrament as well as Benediction. The first initiators of this famous Peace Walk were there along with their leader Hubert Liebherr, converted German businessman.
